We spoke to Honors students traveling to Phoenix, Arizona, to represent TCU in the Fiesta Bowl. Mary Langford ’23 serves as the alumni chair for the TCU Rangers. She is a youth advocacy and educational studies major with a child development minor. Mary answered questions about her experience balancing academics in the Honors College with her extracurriculars supporting the Horned Frogs during their record-breaking football season.
How has the Honors College impacted your TCU experience?
The Honors College has provided me with so many learning experiences, opportunities for growth and many of my best friends. I met one of my closest friends in Milton, the Honors residence hall, freshman year. I cannot imagine my TCU experience without Honors.
How do you balance your extracurriculars and academics?
Time management and prioritizing tasks are really important! I always try to break up bigger assignments into smaller tasks to complete a little bit each day, and that really helps everything seem much less daunting.
What has been your favorite game day memory of the season?
My favorite memory is finally beating Oklahoma at home. All of the Rangers were so excited, and it was so incredible to share that experience with my teammates. We stood right behind the south endzone, and it was so cool to watch the game. I think this win really solidified that this season was going to be a whirlwind and that we were in for a wild ride. I'll remember that game forever.
What are you looking forward to at the College Football Playoffs?
I'm looking forward to going to Arizona with so many of my close friends. It feels like the perfect end to an amazing season, and we can't wait to represent TCU Athletics.
What makes you proud to go to the Fiesta Bowl?
I'm most proud to go to the CFP because nobody expected us to. Nobody imagined that we'd make it this far and it feels really good to have proved them wrong.
