The Purpose of Academic Advising
Honors academic advising helps you achieve your goals and make the most of your Honors
College experience. Honors advising supplements departmental advising, and appointments
should focus on the following:

Fulfilling Honors requirements

Selecting Honors courses and discussing options for completing Honors requirements

Getting involved in the Honors College
-
Developing academic and post-graduation goals and plans
Preparing for Your Advising Appointment
- Meet with your major/departmental academic advisor at least once each semester.
- Make appointments with your Honors College academic advisor as needed, ideally at least once per academic year and more often if needed. To make an appointment, go to tcu.stellic.com or the Stellic tile on your myTCU homepage.
- Review and understand the Honors College requirements.
- Prepare for your advising appointments, and be actively involved in the advising process.
- Review the Honors Student Handbook before your appointment.
- Bring a list of questions for your Honors College academic advisor.
- Bring advising information that you’ve received from your major/departmental academic advisor.
- Check TCU e-mail daily, and include TCU ID number in correspondence with your Honors academic advisor.
- Take responsibility for making your own academic and career decisions and for monitoring your own academic progress.
- Be knowledgeable about the Honors curriculum, and provide accurate information to students.
- Listen carefully and respectfully to students’ questions, concerns, and goals.
- Assist students as they select Honors courses and as they work toward completion of Honors requirements.
- Help students understand how to fit the Honors requirements into their degree programs.
- Refer students to appropriate campus resources.
- Support students as they make informed and responsible decisions and set realistic goals.
