Ethan Gray enjoys data, analytics and understanding how markets work. By majoring in both mathematics and economics, he found a way to connect those interests while building skills he could apply in several different fields.
“My math classes helped me understand economic theory, while economics showed me how math applies in real-world situations,” Gray said.
Originally from Kelowna, Canada, Gray focused those interests in his Honors thesis, which examined how the tone of Federal Reserve communications can influence asset prices. The project came from his interest in financial markets.

“I really enjoyed the research process,” he said. “Interest rates affect so many decisions made by households and businesses, so it felt like an important topic to study.”
One of the highlights of Gray’s Roach Honors experience was living in Milton Daniel Hall during his freshman year, where he built friendships that lasted throughout college.
“I made friends there that I’ve stayed close with all four years,” he said. “I know those relationships will continue long after graduation.”
After graduation, Gray will join LP Analyst in Dallas as a private equity analyst, where he looks forward to continuing to work with data and finance.
He urges incoming Roach Honors students to take advantage of any opportunities that come their way.
“TCU is a special place, and people genuinely want to help you succeed,” he said. “Sometimes all it takes is speaking up and asking.”
