Alexis Garcia with Dean Pitcock

For Alexis Garcia, storytelling has always been second nature. From giving morning announcements in elementary school to interviewing classmates on the playground, her early curiosity has grown into a passion for sharing stories that matter.

Garcia, a Garland, Texas, native, is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and a minor in Spanish.

“I’ve always loved people and the stories that shape their lives,” Garcia said. “Journalism gives me the chance to share those stories with others who might never hear them otherwise.”

While in the John V. Roach Honors College, she found experiences that challenged and shaped her perspective. One of the most memorable was the Nature of Giving and Philanthropy course with Wassenich Family Dean Ron Pitcock, where students worked directly with local organizations and made decisions that had real-world impact.Alexis Garcia headshot

“The class genuinely changed the way I view humanity, generosity and our responsibility to our communities,” she said. “Seeing the reactions of the nonprofits when they received their checks was unforgettable.”

Garcia said the course not only stood out as her favorite Honors class, but also as one of the most transformative experiences of her college career.

“I never expected to have that kind of experience in college, much less alongside the dean,” she said. “It pushed me to think deeply about service, ethics and community impact.”

During her time at TCU, Garcia also served as a managing editor of TCU360, where she helped lead coverage of campus news, student life and events affecting the university and greater Fort Worth community.

After graduation, Garcia will volunteer at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Dallas before beginning her career in journalism, with hopes of working in news or sports.

“I want to use my passion for storytelling to help keep communities informed and connected,” she said.

Her advice to incoming Roach Honors students is to take full advantage of every opportunity.

“Say yes to the experiences that push you outside your comfort zone,” Garcia said. “The more you invest in the Honors community, the more you’ll gain.”
