A Horned Frog traded textbooks for storybooks, determined to share her love of reading with local elementary school students.
Highlighted in the Fort Worth Report, John V. Roach Honors student Jacobe Davis volunteers with Fort Worth ISD’s Reading Buddy program. Davis, a junior who is double-majoring in Spanish and Hispanic studies as well as educational studies, has spent the last two years serving at Sagamore Hill Elementary. Her work comes as the district prioritizes literacy efforts, as a projected two in three students cannot read proficiently.
She spends at least an hour with a student and reads books with them. Although she plans to go to law school after graduating from TCU, she’s driven by a deep passion for education.
“Being in the classroom has never felt like work ever,” Davis said. “I’m impacted by students. The hope is that I’m impacting students as well.”
Davis’ work led to a nomination for 52 Faces of Community – Fort Worth Report’s weekly series spotlighting unsung heroes in Tarrant County.
