Shannon Cooper is an Honors academic advisor for last names A-D. She is the newest
academic advisor to the Honors team, yet she is no stranger to TCU. Learn more about
her TCU journey and what she brings to the Honors College.
What’s your background, and what brought you to TCU?
I grew up in Fort Worth and attended Paschal High School. Then, I went to college at the University of Texas at Austin, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology with a minor in sociology. I came back to Fort Worth, got married and had my three kids, ages 23, 18 and 16. My oldest is a TCU graduate, class of 2022.
We moved to Colorado for a short stint before settling back down in Fort Worth, which is when I applied to work at TCU. First, I worked as a program specialist at the College of Education and later became an academic advisor in the college. I completed my Master of Liberal Arts from TCU. I was an advisor at the College of Education for nine years. I decided it was time for a new chapter when the position in the Honors College opened up.
Why the Honors College at TCU?
The Honors College and Dean Pitcock are highly respected across TCU. I was excited to work on a team of advisors within the college as well. During my time as an advisor in the College of Education, the Honors students I worked with were very dynamic, innovative and forward-thinking. I am looking forward to building relationships with them as an advisor. I hope to bring new ideas for student development and engagement to the table, especially for first-generation students, and peer-to-peer mentorship.
What is one piece of advice you’d give to students?
Enjoy your experience in college! It is important to have balance between your academics and the college experience itself.
Share a fun fact about yourself that others might not know.
I am a huge college sports fan! My true team is UT, but I want TCU to succeed too. I dress neutrally when they play each other.

It is a privilege to be a part of this team and work with students to create an opportunity for them to complete not only their Honors requirements but also their degree at TCU. I am excited to get started!
