Texas Christian University will be represented nationally in honors education with the appointment of Beata M. Jones, Ph.D., professor of Business Information Systems Practice, Neeley Distinguished Teacher, Honors Faculty Partner and Graduate eLearning Fellow, to the National Collegiate Honors Council Board of Directors.
“My goal for service in NCHC is to use my knowledge, skills, initiative, energy and diverse honors contacts around the world to help advance a coherent NCHC agenda that strengthens our honors practice, while lending a hand to projects and initiatives as defined by the board and the committees,” Jones said. “TCU representation on the NCHC Board of Directors adds international visibility to our fantastic John V. Roach Honors College and helps grow our academic reputation. It is an honor to serve in this capacity.”
The National Collegiate Honors Council is an organization that supports more than 50,000 faculty and staff and more than 350,000 students worldwide. NCHC promotes and advances honors education, honors programs and honors colleges in institutions of higher learning.
As a member-at-large of the Board of Directors, Jones’ will help with the strategic planning of the organization, approve the organization’s budgets and honors program reviewers, serve on committees, authorize induction of NCHC Fellows and attend board meetings.
Jones has been involved in honors education for more than 15 years, beginning with the co-creation and leadership of TCU’s Neeley Fellows Program. She has been associated with NCHC since 2008. Her involvement in the organization includes membership in the Teaching and Learning Committee and chairmanship of the Professional Development Committee. Jones regularly attends national conferences presenting in sessions, leading meetings and serving as a consultant. She has also contributed to NCHC publications to help shape the understanding of the field of honors education.
“Appointment to the NCHC Board of Directors enables me to have more credibility advancing the honors education around the world and, particularly, bringing honors education to institutions of higher learning in Poland, where I was born and spent the first 19 years of my life,” Jones continued.
