Abbie Moore couples an Honors skill set with a passion for gymnastics.

Honors student and speech-language pathology major Abbie Moore has been involved in gymnastics her whole life. She started competing when she was only 9 years old and, as a freshman, joined a fledgling TCU Gymnastics Club as a way to meet others who shared her passion for the sport.

Now in her third year at TCU, Moore holds an impressive list of accomplishments. She has served as the club’s president since the 2018-2019 academic year and has grown membership considerably – from five to 30 members. She has also led the club to two national appearances, including a national title in 2019 – the first-ever in TCU sport club history.

“The Honors College has had a great impact on my experience at TCU and I believe has allowed me to be successful within the gymnastics club,” she reflects. She credits her Honors experience as a catalyst for deep involvement in the club, noting that Honors “has provided me with many opportunities to grow my leadership skills, and the Honors classes that I’ve taken have given me unique opportunities to develop skills that have equipped me [to be] a better leader.”

Once one of the smallest clubs in the Texas Gymnastics Conference (TGC), the TCU Gymnastics Club’s growth is a major point of pride for Moore. “This is the first time there will be an executive board (besides one president) in recent [club] history,” she notes. She is working to train other student leaders to help run the club and hopes to maintain – and build upon – the club’s momentum and to add additional people to the competitive team.

She cites the importance of the club’s existence for students, “[it] provides a great opportunity for many current and future students to continue participating in or to learn the sport in a fun and safe environment.” Her ultimate goal for the club is strength and longevity. “I want to make it a large, sustainable organization and cohesive team that will allow it to continue once I graduate,” she said.

In 2020, the club has its sights set on a return to nationals. “We are working on getting as many people ready to potentially compete as we can and doing fundraisers to make that a possible trip!” Moore says. She is training hard and working on new routines with hopes for another successful season representing TCU. “Honors… continues to push and challenge me to do my best, always work hard, as well as surround myself with others that have the same motivation and goals that I do,” she said.

Good luck in your training, Abbie! Honors is rooting for you.
