Honors Student Michael Brown recently returned from a summer internship in Washington, D.C. with Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee. Senator Corker is currently serving his second term in the U.S. Senate, where he is the chairperson of the Foreign Relations Committee and is a member of the Banking Committee and the Budget Committee.
Brown, a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, is a rising sophomore majoring in finance and communications. Following a highly competitive selection process, Brown was chosen to spend six weeks in D.C. this summer interning for Senator Corker. He worked directly with Senator Corker’s constituents by providing tours of the U.S. Capital and collecting phone and mail feedback and queries for the Senator.
In reflection, Brown states that “working in D.C. opened my eyes to people from all walks of life who possessed a common desire to serve their state and country. I think right now a lot of people are disheartened by the state of politics, but I believe that despite that there are still many things that happen in Washington that can make you extremely proud to wear the title of ‘American Citizen.’”
